Ken Lacey

A holder of the top practical BC/SCA  Level 5 sea kayak coach award and his degree covering outdoor activities, sport, psychology and risk management.


Kenny has over 15 years experience as a professional in the field of outdoor activities. His career has spanned variety of areas, from Head of Centre to development training, from working in Local Education Authority centre's as head of department for mountaineering and kayaking to private tuition and guiding, as well as providing advice to the Public and Private sectors on technical matters.

 

He is a sea kayak, river kayak and open canoe coach of British Canoe / Scottish Canoe Association and has paddled most of the West Coast of Scotland bringing a wealth of experience to Sea Kayak Scotland. He is responsible for all instruction and safety with Sea Kayak Scotland where he is committed to providing the highest standards of quality and excellence. Ken is qualified in off site safety management and can provide technical advice on kayaking and mountaineering.

 

He is a Winter  Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and holds the International Mountain Leader Award. Ken has climbed extensively in the UK as well as Europe and North America.

 

Ken was a founder member of Oban Mountain Rescue team responsible for training.

 

Ken is an accredited master wildlife safe operator.

 

Ken is passionate about enabling people to enjoy the out doors at whatever level they desire.

Mitchel (Midge) Leonard

Midge is an associate instructor and has been with us since the start back in 1997. His knowledge of the area rivals Ken's.

 

He is a sea kayak, river kayak and open canoe coach of the British Canoe Union, he is also mountain leader, BASI ski instructor, member of the British Association of Ski Patrollers  and a rope access technician.

 

His career has spanned being a deputy head of centre at Achnamara Outdoor centre, training director of Glencoe Ski School and Ski Patroller.

 

Midge is an accedited wildlife safe operator.

 

In the off season when not surfing in Austrailia or having alpine adventurs with Ken, Midge ski coaches, guides, ski patrols and does contract rope access.

Keith Davis

Is a regular instructor with Sea KayakSscotland and has worked with Ken for the last 7 year, he knows our area intimately.

Keith is a sea kayak, river kayak and open canoe coach of the British Canoe Union, he is also a Winter mountain leader.

Keith has been a director of coach education courses and head of kayaking at at a local education authority centre. When not working for Sea Kayak Scotland Keith operates Paddle Power and Adventure.

Buffy Lacey

 

Buffy is a qualified teacher of additional support needs, kayak coach, mountain leader, riding instructor, riding therapist musician, archaeologist, and Master Saddle Fitting Consultant!

 

As well as providing additional support and instruction for Sea Kayak Scotland Buffy runs the Isle of Seil Saddlery
